MARGARET SLAPE-PHILLIPS

Born in Adelaide, South Australia 1953.  Full time painter/art tutor since 1981.

Studied painting (oils, acrylics, pastels) and drawing with South Australian professional artists for 10 years during the 1970’s. Completed Advanced Painting and Mixed Media course, Brighton Technical and Further Education.   Commenced exhibiting at local art exhibitions from 17 years old.   Invitation to exhibit in first major solo exhibition at Barry Newton Gallery, Unley – Adelaide 1984 – followed by regular contributions to invitational exhibitions amongst some of Adelaide’s most prestigious galleries during 1980 - 2000.

Galleries - Kensington Gallery, Barry Newton Gallery (including “Five Women Artists”), Elder Fine Art, Reade Art, Festival Centre (during production of musical  “Cats”), The Barn, Tomlinson Fine Art, Frank Cardone Gallery, Studio Z, Angus Gallery, Stirling.  Also a regular exhibitor at Victor Harbor Rotary and other Rotary exhibitions and Lions Club.

Privately commissioned to execute a range of artwork for reproduction onto cards, bookmarks, jigsaws puzzles etc. under the title “Cats by Margaret”.  (Distribution throughout Australia).

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

  • General painting (oils/acrylics/pastels) – Brighton, Onkaparinga, Douglas Mawson TAFE campuses – including Camden, Dover Gardens, Daws Road High and Panorama  (21 years from 1981.)
  • Oil/acrylic painting tutor – Artland, Clovelly Park since 1981.
  • Landscape and portrait tutor Glenelg Art Supplies.
  • Oil painting tutor – Burnside and Traditional Art Groups.
